Thoughts from Pres Monson - 3 Apr 2016

(Excerpted from the Blog “What Did the Prophet Say at Conference?”What Did the Prophet Say at Conference?   By Irinna Danielson April 3, 2016)

“...key messages that our dear prophet felt impressed to share with the world—important invitations, I believe, the Lord sent through him just for you and for me.”

Remember Who You Are

President Monson extended this invitation to the brethren during the general priesthood session, but I believe it’s a principle every woman can live by too: “Remember who you are and what God expects you to become. You are a child of promise. You are a man of might. You are a son of God.”

We are children of promise, and as such we need to follow the prophet’s counsel to stand in holy places and live worthy of the divine title “a chosen generation.”

Always Be Worthy

President Monson pleaded with men holding the priesthood to “guard and protect that priesthood” and to “always be worthy to call upon its power, for we never know when our need and our opportunity to do so may come.”

With the great power of the priesthood and its special blessings come solemn responsibilities.

“May we determine, here and now, ever to be prepared for our time of need, our time of service, our time of blessing.”

Choose Faith

During a time when people are dealing with doubts and questions about God, faith, and religion, the prophet gave the perfect answer. How you navigate it is up to you.

“May we choose to build up within ourselves a great and powerful faith which will be our most effective defense against the designs of the adversary—a real faith, the kind of faith which will sustain us and will bolster our desire to choose the right.”

Have Courage to Choose Christ

President Monson taught this principle by sharing a snippet of the story of Alice in Wonderland. He talked about how when Alice was at a crossroads and asked which path she should take, the Cheshire Cat answered, “That depends where you want to go. If you do not know where you want to go, it doesn’t matter which path you take.”

President Monson reminded us that we know which path to take. We have a goal to return to live with our Heavenly Father, so we must “maintain the courage to defy the consensus,” even if that means choosing “the harder right instead of the easier wrong.”

“As we contemplate the decisions we make in our lives each day—whether to make this choice or that—if we choose Christ, we will have made the correct choice.”

Remember who you are. Live worthy of the titles “a chosen generation, a royal priesthood.” Choose to strengthen your faith. And always choose Christ.

Words to live by from a prophet of God. Words especially spoken for you and for me.
