GREAT'S NEW HAIRCUT BEFORE SURGERY

 What a DAY!
Doesn't GREAT look GREAT??!!
She just arrived home from getting her NEW easy care haircut to prepare for her surgery on Thursday at the U.  Great will go in for a craniotomy to remove a tumor in the right- back- side of her head and since the surgeon will have her head cut open, he will also do a biopsy on the temporal artery.
We expect all will go well and that she will be able to return home on Friday ( when we'll be able to post some photos just for her grandsons!

"We can learn much from the courage shown by President Kimball as he has endured his many illnesses. He is a living testimony that, by overcoming pain and adversity, we can cleanse our souls and strengthen our faith and testimony in Jesus Christ. Indeed, in terms of the trials he has had to face, he is in many ways a modern-day Job...President Kimball, being a righteous man like Job, has endured many trials—cancer of the throat, heart surgery, boils, cranial surgery, and numerous other afflictions. President Kimball’s experiences serve as an example of how we should meet similar adversity and suffering in our lives.

President Kimball has not sinned or charged God foolishly. He has kept his integrity and his testimony, and sung the praises of his Lord throughout his many physical trials. We have never heard him complain about his trials. On the contrary, his challenge has been, “Give me this mountain” to climb. (See Josh. 14:12.)

The courage and faith of President Kimball to overcome adversity are an example to all of us, to testify that we, too, can meet the challenges of life."

ONLY 2 AMIGOS THIS TRIP...

The 3 Amigos were minus 1 on this Pioneer Holiday trip to Yellowstone
 Cody and Papa camped (in the tent on the ground which is probably why the 3rd Amigo didn't join them, but now wishes he had...)  at the Bates Lodge in Driggs, Idaho and then made some day trips to visit relatives.   This is Papa's Uncle Cloyd Bates, and Uncle Derold and Aunt Nyla Bates who were staying in the Bates'Lodge.
Cody and Papa LOVE to visit the airplane museums!

Never thought I'd see our Grandson standing at the mouth of Hell!           (He's actually standing at the beginning of the Hell's Half Acre Trail.)
Here's Cody with his GGreat Uncle Dick Harvey at the Flight Museum. (Uncle Dick's wife is Aunt JoAnne Bevan Harvey, and sister to Papa's Dad, J Bert Bevan.  Cody and Papa stopped at their home for a personal visit to express their love to Uncle Dick and Aunt JoAnne's family who are enduring great heartache over their grandson, Jason Allgood, who has been missing since Jun 17th from a fishing trip in Alaska.  Cody at the Falls in Yellowstone...
Cody and the ever faithful Old Faithful!
Papa as Old Faithful is dying down... and some of their photos of the ever-beautiful Yellowstone, with the Grand Canyon, more falls, hot pools, boiling mud pots and even pretty, smelly sulfuric-steam!

Cody and Papa actually
had a great buffalo experience
with the buffalo actually walking and rubbing his fur alongside the passenger side of the car (Cody's side!), but sadly not one of those shots out the car window turned out to exhibit proof!
Here's amazing views of the Teton Peaks;

WHAT A VIEW!!   Have to admit, this shot looks like Heaven and Earth have merged!!

OUR FAMILY INSPIRATIONAL FOCUS is from chapter 7 of the Book of Moses wherein:

----Enoch teaches, leads the people, moves mountains;
—The City of Zion is established;
—Enoch foresees the coming of the Son of Man, his atoning sacrifice, and the resurrection of the saints;
—He foresees the restoration, the gathering, the Second Coming, and the return of Zion.

 Moses 7:2-4

"2 And from that time forth Enoch began to prophesy, saying unto the people, that: As I was journeying, and stood upon the place Mahujah, and cried unto the Lord, there came a voice out of heaven, saying—Turn ye, and get ye upon the mount Simeon.

3 And it came to pass that I turned and went up on the mount; and as I stood upon the mount, I beheld the heavens open, and I was clothed upon with glory;

4 And I saw the Lord; and he stood before my face, and he talked with me, even as a man talketh one with another, face to face; and he said unto me: Look, and I will show unto thee the world for the space of many generations."

SISTERS FOREVER

On the left is Mom.  My mother and friend. She's Gramma to our kids and Great to our grandkids.  Daddy calls her Honey - in fact, I dont know that I've ever heard him call her by her name, Gloria. (Remember, she was a Christmas Baby!)  She is sitting next to her Sister, MaryLou, who says that Mom is 9 years younger than she is and refers to her as My Baby Sis!  Then, Aunt Mary retells the story that I love to hear:  "The year your mom was born, Daddy said, 'You know it's Christmas, and we don't have anything to give you. But, Santa brought you a BABY SISTER!"  Sometimes, Aunt Mary will call her Glory and other times just SIS.  What's important to them, and to all of us is that they will be SISTERS FOREVER!

Aunt Mary was here only for a short visit but we were able to hear again the stories of her work on genealogy and the time Grampa Kidd (her daddy) appeared just sitting on the sofa and smiling.  Somehow, when I look at Mom and Aunt Mary, I can almost see Grampa, too.  I remember his blue eyes and never-ending smile. I remembered how he loved all of us!
Family memories are a GOOD THING!

Which now brings us to Daddy!  - Or the Never-Ending-Story here at BevanResort that should be called LIFE WITH FATHER!

Yes, this is Daddy! My father and life-long friend and buddy! He's known as Papa to our kids and Great Papa to their kids. Mom calls him Jerry - or YOUR FATHER if he's in trouble. You see him here in his FAVORITE pool cleaning attire: a shirt that I bought him (and Errol has a matching one) for Father's Day - only it was matched with long PJ pants that Daddy nor Errol would NEVER wear.  So Daddy loves to pair THIS shirt with some swim shorts he picked up in Hawaii while stationed there many, many years  during his Naval Reserve days.  Only, when he arrived home in Utah, he realized the  swim shorts weren't long enough, so he made Mom sew a band on the bottom of them to lengthen them appropriately.  (I think they have pockets galore which is why Daddy is so attached to those shorts! But, I'm sure he'll say he wears them just to irritate me!)  On that note, notice the heavy DARK socks with his clogs and the floppy fishing hat to protect his balding spot.   And don't forget, his ATOMIC watch and must-wear-ONLY-Polarized Sun glasses.  Notice the stark white calves, too.  When Daddy was in Europe with the Navy during the 60's, his sun-exposed skin was soooo dark that  the Europeans  thought he was born there!! (That's part of his French ancestral genes.)

Our INSPIRATIONAL FAMILY FOCUS comes from the old Family Home Evening Manual:

"Most of us can remember from our childhood the great joy of sharing experiences as a family...

“When I think back on my childhood and my teenage years I recall with an almost reverent attitude those pleasant memories of the things we children and mother and father did as a family. I remember that in those days there wasn’t much to do in the community so we had to seek our recreation in our home. I wouldn’t trade the memories of our family parties and other family recreation for all of today’s theatres, bowling alleys, and restaurants. …

I am determined to do all I can to plan activities for my family that will bring the Lord’s Spirit into our home the way the Spirit filled the home of my parents. I want my children to have the great blessing of having the memories that are so dear to me” (Family Home Evening Manual [1968], 184–85). "

We want the Joy of Family to fill our Families!

Have You Thought About the Angels At Your Side Lately?

This is our Beautiful Daughter who was photographed while casually standing in front of the mirror as she was visiting with her father.  I took the picture because it seemed to have an illuminating reflection that opened my 'spiritual eyes' to something that was more than I could 'see'!

Without addition comment, we are absolutely loving our INSPIRATIONAL FAMILY FOCUS today:  Elder Jeffrey R. Holland spoke of The MINISTRY OF ANGELS (and because we were also assigned this talk for the focus of our talks in Sacrament Meeting last year, THIS message is very dear to our hearts!):

"And so such ministrations will be to the righteous until the end of time. As Mormon said to his son Moroni, who would one day be an angel:

“Has the day of miracles ceased?

“Or have angels ceased to appear unto the children of men? Or has he withheld the power of the Holy Ghost from them? Or will he, so long as time shall last, or the earth shall stand, or there shall be one man upon the face thereof to be saved?

“Behold I say unto you, Nay; for … it is by faith that angels appear and minister unto men. …

“For behold, they are subject unto [Christ], to minister according to the word of his command, showing themselves unto them of strong faith and a firm mind in every form of godliness.” (Moroni 7:35–37, 30)

I ask everyone within the sound of my voice to take heart, be filled with faith, and remember the Lord has said He “would fight [our] battles, [our] children’s battles, and [the battles of our] children’s children.” ( D&C 98:37)   And what do we do to merit such a defense? We are to “search diligently, pray always, and be believing[. Then] all things shall work together for [our] good, if [we] walk uprightly and remember the covenant wherewith [we] have covenanted.” (D&C 90:24)   The latter days are not a time to fear and tremble. They are a time to be believing and remember our covenants.

....May we all believe more readily in, and have more gratitude for, the Lord’s promise as contained in one of President Monson’s favorite scriptures: “I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, … my Spirit shall be in your [heart], and mine angels round about you, to bear you up.” (D&C 84:88)   In the process of praying for those angels to attend us, may we all try to be a little more angelic ourselves—with a kind word, a strong arm, a declaration of faith and “the covenant wherewith [we] have covenanted.”(D&C 90:24)   Perhaps then we can be emissaries sent from God..."

ECLIPSE EXPERIENCE

So, what do the girls do when the boys go fishing?

Well, since we didn't want to be 'eclipsed' by the rest of the family in their many outings to the newest movie, we decided to make a neighborhood excursion to the Gateway last Saturday amidst the scorching heat that was making life in Utah miserable.
However, as you can see, we were quite cool with the Gateway's excellent air conditioning and comfort-double padded, theatre recliners!

Smiles abound!

Mom gets a needed break!

Our after movie cool-down continues at Leatherby's:
And ends in the pool -

With a family BBQ -

and Great Summer Finger Foods -

Complete with our own Vampire Slayer, Buffy, who fell in the pool - (or jumped  in accidentally to get out of the heat!) -

And others who elected to lay-out in the heat -
While others just paddled away...

But not before enjoying the roses!
I am so pleased and excited to add this INSPIRATIONAL FAMILY FOCUS! It's from a tribute article in the ENSIGN for Elder Neal A. Maxwell in speaking of his life as A LIVING SERMON:

"Elder Maxwell loved the Lord and knew of His love for us, explaining “we may turn from him, but he is still there. We may feel that he is hidden from us because of the cloud cover of our concerns, but he is still close to us. We—not he—let something come between us, but no lasting ECLIPSE need ensue. … Our disregard of him is no match for his love of us. Yes, Jesus of Nazareth lived! He lives now! He guides his Church!” (“All Hell Is Moved,” in 1977 Devotional Speeches of the Year [1978], 181).Related articles by Zemanta
